Recently, Security startup Prompt Security Inc. has raised USD 18 million in new funding to advance its mission of protecting enterprises from generative artificial intelligence threats, while providing visibility and governance over gen AI tools.

Founded in 2023 and launched in January, Prompt Security focuses on protecting enterprises from the risks associated with generative AI. The company’s platform provides robust security solutions, enabling organizations to adopt generative AI technologies without jeopardizing data privacy or security.

The company’s platform aims to tackle the rising issue of AI security breaches among enterprises deploying AI. According to Prompt Security research, the average enterprise uses 67 generative AI tools, with nearly 90% of them lacking proper licensing or corporate approval.

Prompt Security’s solutions address multiple AI touchpoints within an organization, including browsers, copilots, coding assistants, and custom applications. By analyzing prompts and model responses, the platform prevents data leaks, blocks harmful content, and protects against generative AI-specific threats like prompt injections and shadow AI.

The company states that the platform provides enterprises with complete visibility and governance over the AI tools in use, facilitating effective policy enforcement and risk management. This approach ensures that AI integrations comply with corporate standards and regulatory requirements, thereby reducing potential vulnerabilities.

In September, Prompt Security launched the first security and governance solution for Microsoft 365 Copilot, highlighting its commitment to addressing emerging AI challenges. This initiative is part of the company’s proactive approach to securing widely used AI applications.

Jump Capital led the Series A round, joined by Hetz Ventures Ltd., Ridge Ventures, Okta Inc., and F5 Inc.

“As enterprises accelerate their adoption of generative AI, so do the associated risks. This funding supercharges our mission to enable the safe use and deployment of generative AI in enterprises by mitigating such risks,” Itamar Golan, Co-founder and Chief Executive of Prompt Security, said in a statement.

Prompt Security was founded by Golan and Lior Drihem, who bring extensive experience from the cybersecurity industry. Both previously worked at Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., while Golan also contributed at Orca Security Ltd. and was part of the core team for OWASP’s Top 10 for LLM Applications.
