Snap Inc. announced that it is eyeing to incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistance in its service. It is all set to integrate ‘My AI,’ a chatbot backed by OpenAI LLC’s ChatGPT, in the multimedia instant messaging application Snapchat.
The company’s announcement revealed that the new service would enable users to communicate with AI for various recommendations, such as event plans, ideas for birthday gifts, recipes for multiple cuisines, and more.
However, the company also forewarned that the AI shouldn’t be asked anything else other than simple questions because the AI chatbot can ideate things or be manipulated into saying unusual things. This indicates that ChatGPT’s AI chatbots can act strangely by going off the track in conversations, as reported by Microsoft Corp.’s latest Bing AI-backed chatbot.
Despite such existing issues, Evan Spiegel, Snap’s Chief Executive, looks confident about AI’s future and reported that he felt integrating instant messaging service with AI could be a promising step in human and AI technology interaction.
“The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we’re going to talk to AI every day. And this is something we’re well-positioned to do as a messaging service,” Spiegel added.
After launching the service, My AI will be available to Snapchat users under the app tab and appear more like another user. Users can communicate with it just like humans by asking questions and receiving corresponding responses.
Unlike ChatGPT’s other versions, this Snapchat AI bot is quite constricted in its capabilities and is adequately configured to be family-compatible. It will refrain from answering questions that could entice any explicit statement related to sexuality, violence, or stoking topics such as politics. Besides, the AI will not help users with academic essays or assignments, which is a rising concern as many chatbots out there can generate large text bodies.
The new AI chatbot of the Snap was announced a week after the unveiling of Google LLC’s internally created ChatGPT rival, Bard, and Microsoft’s Bing chatbot.
The new AI feature will be made available to the subscribers of Snapchat , a service was announced in June priced at USD 3.99/ month. Later, the chatbot feature will be gradually unlocked for over 750 million active monthly users of the company.
